As we settle into the quieter (yet still warm and sunny) Autumn season at Drivalia Car Rental we bring you some Alicante news that particularly caught our eye recently and which you might have missed. Plus news of two up-coming events and a word about us.
In the local Alicante News
easyJet passengers can say goodbye to the scrum (well almost)
From November 2012, easyJet is rolling out allocated seating across their network. For those of us who prefer to know at least one of the other people we will be squashed next to for two hours on our no-frills flights to/from Alicante, this is great news!
Watch Your Speed!
If you don’t, the chances are someone else will and that person could be wearing a uniform. The Guardia Civil have added to their anti-speeding toolbox: speed cameras and unmarked cars are joined by an ‘eye in the sky’. Read more: Big Brother Is Watching
New British Airways Gatwick to Alicante
After the announcement that BA will be flying from Heathrow to Alicante starting this month we now learn from a recent Tweet they will be flying from Gatwick too: “New route: Gatwick to Alicante, Spain from 31 March 2013. Seventeen flights per week April-June and 21 per week for July – September.” We will be interested to see how their fares compare to the “low-cost” airlines.
Up-coming Events

Mystery Play of Elche
In 2001 UNESCO included the Mystery Play of Elche on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
According to UNESCO the play is “a sacred musical drama of the death, the passage into heaven (known as the Assumption) and the crowning of the Virgin Mary.”
The play is performed annually in the month of August but in years ending in an even number there are also other special performances: these take place on the 29th and 30th October (dress rehearsals), and on the 1st November the full play is performed. If you would like to see the 2012 performance visit the Region of Valencia site for further details.
Drivalia Car Rental
This is the time of year when we at Drivalia, and all well-managed car rental companies, are scaling down the fleet size ready for the low-season. This does of course mean we will have less cars available for hire so we do recommend that you book early for the peak times, especially Christmas and New Year. Drivalia has a no-deposit policy and there are no cancellation or amendment fees so you have nothing to lose by booking now.
All Drivalia customers arriving year-round are guaranteed a car no older than 24 months. As a result of Drivalia´s Autumn “Spring Clean” those customers arriving between 01 November 2012 and 31 March 2013 are guaranteed a rental car no older than 12 months.
