Torrevieja May Fair brings singing, dancing and fine food to the beachfront for several days.
While a relatively new addition to the Torreviejan calendar, the May Fair has a 500 year history, originating in Andalucía. This history is celebrated in the food and drink served up at the fair.
This year (2013) the fair runs from Wednesday the 8th of May until Sunday the 12th. The fair kicks off on the Wednesday at around 9pm with fireworks and the ceremonial switching on of the fair lights.
Singing and dancing is a nightly occurrence at the fair, starting at 9pm on most nights. People dress in traditional costume, including the red ruffle dresses that are emblematic of Spain and dance the sevillanas, a type of folk music and dancing originating in Seville. On the Saturday and Sunday, there is a display of horses and carriages.
The fair takes place by the harbour. Entrance to the fair is free but tickets are required for some seating areas. For more information, click here.
Torrevieja is around a 45-minute drive south from Drivalia´s depot at Alicante Airport.
