During April the weather starts to improve – daylight hours’ increase, temperatures improve, and generally landscapes start to blossom and bloom in preparation for the summer. By May the weather is usually lovely – not too hot but warm and pleasant (although don´t blame us if we get that prediction wrong!) We finally cast away Winter, put those long, cold, hard months behind us and look forward to the summer.

Spain has an amazing number of destinations that are perfect to visit during May. During this month, prices are still relatively cheap and as it is not a peak tourist season, you can generally expect lesser crowds. If you want to explore an exciting new location this May, we have selected five epic destinations that are sure to impress. Remember that Drivalia offer car hire at all of these destinations so you can book a get-away and your all-inclusive car hire to make sure that your holiday is filled with fun and without worries!

Alicante
Alicante is one of the most popular coastal towns on the Costa Blanca and benefits from favourable temperatures all year round. In May you can expect sunshine, warm seas and sunbathing weather. This thriving town has several beautiful beaches that are serviced by some fantastic hotels and amenities. If you want to relax and enjoy some spring sunshine, this is the place to visit! Aside from the beaches and promenade, Alicante also has some superb architecture and is located in a region full of exciting towns such as Murcia, Torrevieja and Benidorm where you can arrive by car in less than an hour.

Girona
Another superb city located towards the eastern coast of Spain, Girona may not experience temperatures as high as Alicante, but it is still a fantastic destination to visit during May. At this time of year, the crowds of tourists have not yet arrived and you can enjoy this charming city to yourself. Notable sites include the domineering city walls, the Cathedral of Santiago, the Museum of Jewish Heritage and El Call (The old Jewish town). Girona is also close to the French border and only a short drive from Barcelona and the small country of Andorra where you can enjoy the snow if you like it more than the heat.

Majorca / Mallorca
As the largest Balearic Island, Majorca is a sublime destination to visit at practically any time of the year. As crowds start to rise from June onwards through to September; May presents a respite and offers the chance to enjoy what this island has to offer without the crowds and noise the summer months present. Consider visiting Palma and admiring the cathedral, or travelling to one of the coastal resorts such as Cala D’or, Cala Millor, Magaluf or Portocolom. Utilising a car-hire service from Drivalia would allow you to explore the island and take advantage of the quieter roads.

Valencia
Valencia is another option to go on holiday on May because of its perfect weather and all the places you can go from here. This city is the third capital of Spain and it has impressive monuments to enjoy. There you can walk among animals in the Oceanografic or the Bioparc, you can enjoy the historical part of the city, but you can also visit one of the most futuristic places in the world, the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias. Valencia is perfect to hire a car with Drivalia because you can park everywhere easily and this is the ideal way to enjoy the Mediterranean beaches that are only five minutes away by car from the centre of the city.

If these four destinations haven’t impressed, we don’t know what will! As you can see, Spain has a great deal to offer, especially during the springtime. These four locations will provide you with a superb mix of golden beaches, historical architecture, shopping and culture.
